The comedian found inspiration in Eliud Kipchoge’s incredible sub-2-hour marathon attempt back in May.
Already renowned as a comedy icon, a Hollywood film star, a cover model for Runner’s World, and a bestselling author according to The New York Times, Kevin Hart is now gearing up to tackle a new challenge. On November 5th, the multi-talented 38-year-old has set his sights on becoming a marathoner by participating in the prestigious New York City Marathon – a noteworthy addition to his impressive list of accomplishments.
Hart began his running journey in 2015 during a comedy tour. On a whim, he organized an impromptu 5K run in Boston, spreading the word on Twitter the evening before. The turnout was unexpectedly large, inspiring a string of Nike-backed pop-up 5Ks that drew crowds of thousands in various cities as Hart traveled for his performances.
In August 2016, he participated in his inaugural event at Hood to Coast in Oregon – a challenging 199-mile relay race with a team of 12. In under 24 hours and across three stages, he managed to cover almost 18 miles. A few months following this accomplishment, he graced the cover of a magazine in vintage attire.
In May, Nike extended an invitation to Hart to witness the Breaking2 event at a Formula 1 track in Monza, Italy. During the event, Eliud Kipchoge achieved a remarkable time of 2:00:25. This achievement motivated Hart to set his sights on conquering the same distance, which he likened to a “moonshot” in his statement.
Hart will be joining a notable lineup of participants for the marathon, which includes supermodel Karlie Kloss, retired NFL player Tiki Barber, running pioneer Kathrine Switzer, and singer Prince Royce. Together, they will navigate through the bustling city’s five boroughs to ultimately reach Central Park.
During a brief intermission in his Irresponsible Tour, Hart will participate in a marathon. He is set to have performances on October 29 in Mobile, Alabama, and a show on November 10 in Santa Barbara, California. (Source: runnersworld.com)
